Public reminded: Liquor ban on Oct 27, 28

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday reminded the public that a liquor ban will be implemented on October 27 and 28 for the 2013 barangay elections.

The ban covers the selling, offering, buying, serving and taking of intoxicating liquor on Sunday and Monday, the election day.

“Starting 12:01 of October 27 until midnight of October 28, an election liquor ban will be implemented nationwide except in the Province of Bohol and in Zamboanga City,” Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.

He explained that that Bohol and Zamboanga City is not covered by the ban as the Barangay polls there were postponed to November 25, 2013.

The Comelec and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are still also implementing a gun ban in connection with the upcoming barangay elections.

The PNP placed all its personnel on full alert on Friday in preparation for the polls.

The police body is monitoring the situation in over 6,000 areas of concern out of the total of 42,000 barangays in the country.
