MANILA, Philippines - Presidential Communications Operations Office Sonny Coloma will be joining the regular press briefings in Malacañang that is usually attended by presidential spokespersons who recently went under fire.
But Coloma denied that he will be speaking to the media more often to rescue the performance of the other members of the communications group, who were criticized for supposedly dragging the President into the pork barrel controversy created by the alleged illegal use of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
He also denied that the President is not pleased with his spokespersons.
"Wala naman po sigurong kailangang i-rescue dahil wala namang kalamidad na naganap," Coloma said in a press briefing on Thursday.
"Wala pong takeover na naganap sapagkat iisang pangkat po kami at lahat po kami ay ginagawa 'yung maaari naming iambag doon sa overall communication effort," he added.
Earlier this month, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda and other Palace officials were chided by former Senator Joker Arroyo for supposedly bringing President Aquino in trouble in connection with the DAP and the pork barrel scam.
"Part of the problem in Malacañang is the indolence of spokespersons. They play things by the ear and pass it off as facts," Arroyo said. "Staff indolence, that's why the President gets into trouble for missteps that are not his."
