Globe pledges continuing support for Gawad Kalinga

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has renewed its commitment to Gawad Kalinga on the organization’s 10th anniversary, which it celebrated at the GK Expo held at the GK Enchanted Farm in Bulacan last Oct. 5. In line with the expo’s theme “Walang Iwanan,” Globe maintains its support in various aspects of the organization’s initiatives. “Globe puts a premium on sustainability, which is why over the years, we’ve continued to expand our partnership with Gawad Kalinga,” said Yoly Crisanto, head of Globe Corporate Communications. “By leveraging our core business, innovating, and working closely with GK, we hope to make a larger contribution to nation-building. What started out as simple support for the GK Expo evolved into a deeper and more sustainable partnership fueled by a common mission to promote inclusive growth in underserved communities nationwide.”

Globe currently provides both financial and infrastructure support to enable GK to not just maintain its various initiatives, but to achieve scale as well. Through various grants, Globe aims to help develop GK’s social enterprise programs and provide more livelihood opportunities for the GK communities.

At present, the company is supporting GK social enterprise Bayani Brew, which produces iced tea using organic ingredients from the GK Enchanted Farm. Bayani Brew Iced Tea is being sold at the company’s new headquarters, The Globe Tower in Taguig, and will soon be made available in the building’s various meeting venues.

Apart from providing grants, Globe is also providing the organization with communication channels, and has built a dedicated Internet facility at the GK Enchanted Farm to further support the social enterprises housed here. Through this Internet facility, Globe aims to help develop a thriving business ecosystem geared towards innovation.

“The Internet facility at the GK Enchanted Farm is the best 10th year anniversary gift for Gawad Kalinga. Connectivity is critical for these budding social entrepreneurs, our new breed of heroes who are working to develop and scale their business models towards more inclusive growth for our country. We thank Globe for never leaving the poor behind. Walang iwanan!” said Tony Meloto, founder of Gawad Kalinga.

Globe Telecom’s partnership with GK began in Bagong Silang in Caloocan in 2006. Initially focusing on employee volunteerism and program development, Globe went on to expand its support to other areas, including social entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
