Comelec website to post names of disqualified b’gay poll bets

MANILA, Philippines - Voters could check the website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to verify if their incumbent barangay officials are eligible for re-election or are disqualified for serving more than three consecutive terms.

Comelec Commissioner Robert Christian Lim said the poll body would post on its website the names of barangay captains and kagawads (councilmen) that have served for three terms to guide voters on who are qualified to run in the Oct. 28 village elections.

Lim said the Comelec would also monitor the list of candidates who have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) since Oct. 11 as he urged voters to be vigilant and be guided by announcements from the commission.

He noted that the vigilance of the public would save the Comelec the tedious proceedings for the disqualification of barangay officials.

“So we will have lesser cases of disqualifications,” he added.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is also coordinating with the Comelec regarding the disqualification from the Oct. 28 polls of village officials who served for more than three consecutive terms.

The DILG-tasked National Barangay Operations Office (NBOO) will work with the Comelec to screen barangay officials who served for over three consecutive terms.
