Ramil expected today

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Quedan left the country yesterday afternoon, but another storm, named Ramil, is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility today.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Quedan left the Philippine area of responsibility at around 4 p.m. yesterday as it moved toward the northern part of Taiwan.

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said Ramil, another storm from the Pacific Ocean is expected to enter the Philippines, this afternoon.

Ramil (international name Danas) was moving at 30 kilometers per hour (kph) and has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph, PAGASA said.

Aurelio said Ramil was expected to follow the track of Quedan and would not make landfall, although it would affect the country.

Quedan was moving northwest toward southern Japan.

At 5 p.m. yesterday, the eye of the typhoon was spotted at 610 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or 410 kilometers east of northern Taiwan.

It has maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of 185 kph. It was moving west-northwest at 15 kph.

By this afternoon, Quedan is expected to be 540 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes.
