AFP: MNLF fighters running low on ammo
MANILA, Philippines - The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters in Zamboanga City are now running low on ammunition, a military official said on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc, Armed Forces of the Philippines public information office officer in charge, said government troops managed to recover several firearms and bandoliers of MNLF rebels belonging to the Misuari faction during a clash in the area.
"Our troops have recovered several firearms and bandoliers- yung lalagayan ng bala, at marami rin sa mga baril na iniwan ng mga rebelde wala nang mga bala," Cabunoc said.
He reiterated that many of the MNLF remnants in the city are now contained in the barangays of Sta. Barbara and Sta. Catalina.
"Marami na rin ang nagpapalit ng civilian clothes para makatakas," Cabunoc said.
As this developed, Cabunoc said the government is confident to end the standoff and arrest the remaining MNLF fighters who have occupied several parts of the city.
"We have retaken the parts of the city previously occupied by the MNLF forces in the past days. We hope to end the crisis the soonest possible time," he said.
