‘Impeachment calls vs Noy have no basis’

MANILA, Philippines - Senators allied with Malacañang believe any impeachment complaint against President Aquino over his use of the President’s Social Fund – referred to by critics as the President’s pork barrel funds – has no basis.

Senate President Franklin Drilon said: “They know that there is no basis, and P-Noy has the full support of the House (of Representatives) and the people. They know they have no chance.”

Clearly part of the plan to weaken the President and make him a lame duck president for the next three years, Drilon said the calls for impeachment are all politics and have nothing to do with national interest.

“The President will remain focused and will not be distracted by such moves,” he said.

Sen. Ralph Recto said an impeachment complaint against Aquino will not prosper.

“No reason to impeach the President,” he said. “The President’s presence will always be helpful.”

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said the calls for impeachment are part of a devious agenda to divert attention from the pork barrel scam.

“The people will see through the devious agenda of those who would ride on public outrage against the pork,”  he said.
