PNoy: DOJ observing Nur, MNLF actions for potential case
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III on Friday said he has tasked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the Nur Misuari-led Moro National Liberation Front's attack in Zamboanga City for the possible filing of criminal charges.
"Iniimbestigahan (ng DOJ) lahat ng mga actuations ni Misuari and others," Aquino said in a press conference Friday.
Saying he received reports how previous cases against Misuari were dismissed due to lack of evidence, Aquino vowed to pursue the case against the rebel leader this time.
"From the start of the crisis, inatasan natin si Secretary of Justice Leila de Lima na tingnan kung ano ang actual na may pruweba tayo ng pinaggagawa nila," the President said.
Aquino also believes that the attack was planned and did not occur sporadically.
"I think all of the actions have been very decisive from the start. ‘Yun ang plano nila talaga en mass, in 200 or so, pupunta sa city hall, magtatayo ng bandera and that never happened," he said.
The government will ensure that those responsible for the current crisis in Zamboanga City will be held accountable, he added.
Aquino flew to the conflict-stricken city Friday morning to assess the situation and extend help to the refugees and wounded soldiers.

Stationed military officials also briefed Aquino on their operation.
The MNLF, meanwhile, blamed Aquino for prompting the insurrection following his administration's failure to engage the rebels in exploring the 1996 peace agreement.
"The Aquino administration wanted people to believe that the existing Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is a 'failed experiment' that has to be replaced by a new concept autonomy embodying the future 'Bangsamoro'," the MNLF said in a statement.
