No basis to impeach Aquino: official

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines  (Xinhua) - The presidential palace dismissed a plan made by a party-list congressman to file an impeachment complaint against President Benigno S. Aquino III today.

Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang said there was no basis to impeach President Aquino.

"Let me just say that the president has never been accused of misusing any funds from the public," said Carandang, adding "there is absolutely no legal or moral basis to impeach the president and I don't think anybody would agree that that would have any basis."

It is reported that ACT Teachers Party-list Representative Antonio Tinio was considering filing an impeachment complaint against Aquino for alleged misuse of the pork barrel under his administration.

If Tinio successfully pursue with the impeachment raps, this will be the first time that Aquino would face such complaint for the past three years that he has been in office.
