Inmate 'nabbed' for selling shabu inside North Cotabato jail
KIDAPAWAN CITY – Security personnel of the North Cotabato provincial jail here on Tuesday seized P80,000 worth of shabu from an inmate secretly selling drugs inside the facility.
Senior Jail Officer Edwin Paalisbo, who was one of the guards that discovered the drug trafficking activities of inmate Jason James Arnaiz, said they learned of illegal activity from informants, among them prisoners he tried to lure into buying Shabu.
Jail guards on duty cuffed the suspect while in the act of receiving a mysterious package containing shabu hidden in individual wrappers of chocolate bars, sent by his sister, Jennifer, who resides in Iligan City.
Certain inmates have secretly informed the jail management of the modus operandi of the Arnaiz siblings in smuggling in shabu to the provincial jail from Iligan City.
Paalisbo, citing initial assessment by investigators, placed the seized drugs' value at P80,000.
Paalisbo said jail warden Chief Inspector Janeth Espartero and police investigators are now preparing criminal charges against Arnaiz and his sister.
