Allergy-hit Aquino lost voice, sister says
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III was prompted to take a break from his duties as his allergy began acting up on Thursday, a Palace official said.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the President’s allergy began to become “active†after attending the Philippine National Police 112th police service anniversary at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Lacierda said the President’s allergic reaction to pollen was aggravated because of the presence of floral arrangements at the venue.
“During the course of the few days, his allergy has been quite active,†Lacierda said.
He added that aside from resting, the President is also taking his anti-allergy medication to counter the effects of his adverse reaction to pollen.
“He’s resting right now. After presiding over long meetings yesterday, nagpapahinga na siya ngayon,†Lacierda said.
With his condition, Aquino failed to attend the inauguration of the Aluling Bridge in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur on Thursday.
Presidential sister Viel Aquino-Dee instead graced the event and said his brother also lost his voice.
"Nagising po ang aking kuya na 'di makapagsalita. Wala po siyang boses." Aquino-Dee said before reading his brother's speech for the event.
