CBCP exec to govt: Form body to probe padrino system

MANILA, Philippines - An official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines on Wednesday called on the government to form a special investigative body to look into the so-called "padrino" system at the Bureau of Customs.
Father Edu Gariguez, CBCP- National Secretariat for Social Action Justice and Peace executive secretary, said there should be an independent body to probe alleged anomalies and questionable transactions at the BOC.
He also urged the Senate allow the Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation to probe into the controversy.
He said the Senate should let the DOJ continue with the investigation as some legislators and high government officials have been implicated in the controversy.
