LPG supplier denies having substandard cylinders
MANILA, Philippines - A firm supplying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) denied yesterday that its cylinders were substandard and was the cause of an explosion in Paco, Manila last week that left several people injured.
Earlier, LPGMA party-list Rep. Arnel Ty warned the public against substandard, Chinese-made cylinders like Shine Gas, saying a cylinder of the said brand caused the explosion.
In a statement, Shine Gas said Ty’s declaration was “unsubstantiated, contrary to actual facts, and detrimental to the reputation of the company.â€
It said its cylinders underwent strict safety tests, and have Import Commodity Clearance from the Bureau of Product Standards of the Department of Trade and Industry.
“Shine Gas has been tested for their safety, similar to those cylinder gas available in the market,†Edwin Yap Co, an official of the company, said.
He said Shine Gas’ cylinders are not substandard and investigators found no indication that a Shine Gas cylinder was the cause of the LPG blast in Paco.
He also said that Shine Gas has repeatedly issued announcements and taken out advertisements to warn the public against fake and substandard gas cylinders.
