Pagasa expects moderate rains this week

MANILA, Philippines - A weak southwest monsoon will continue to bring light to moderate rains in many parts of the country, including Metro Manila, in the next few days, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone was forecast to enter the country’s territory in the next few days.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga and Davao region will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Typhoon Huaning - the eighth tropical cyclone to enter the country this year - left the Philippine area of responsibility last Saturday.

Meanwhile, the weather agency continued to advise fishermen not to venture out to the seas of northern Luzon due to big waves associated with the surge of the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA said the seaboards of northern Luzon, including Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Sur and La Union, will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

These areas will have moderate to rough seas with wave heights expected to reach 2.1 to 4 meters, the agency said.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are alerted against moderate to rough seas,” PAGASA said.
