Indian gov’t donates Mother Teresa bust to UST

MANILA, Philippines - A bust of the Blessed Mother Teresa donated by the Indian government has been erected at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) campus in Manila.

CBCPNews, the official news service provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), yesterday said the bust of the “living saint” was carved by West Bengal-based Indian sculptor Gautam Pal.

The bust, which was set up at the Santissimo Rosario Parish Garden of UST, would be unveiled on July 16 at 3 p.m., to be witnessed by Indian Ambassador Amit Dasgupta and UST rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy. Nuns from the Missionaries of Charity will also be present to offer flowers.

The UST’s Office of Public Affairs said the bust would be marked by a plaque with Mother Teresa’s famous saying, “Your strength lies in small things,” a phrase that encapsulates her work as a missionary nun.

“It also commemorates her role as a constant source of inspiration for the Thomasian community in upholding UST’s core values of competence, commitment, and compassion,” the public affairs office added.
