Noy to distribute new pistols at Crame today

MANILA, Philippines - Security will be tightened today in Camp Crame as President Aquino leads the ceremonial distribution of 12,000 Glock 17 Generation 4 pistols to policemen.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office said representatives of the recipients of the brand new pistols, which would fill up the firepower of the police force, would receive the pistols from the President.

The PNP earlier reported that 12,000 9mm pistols were part of the 22,603 firearms that would be distributed to policemen this month.

Superintendent Alladin Collado of the Supply Management Division of the PNP Directorate for Logistics said that the recipients of the firearms are policemen assigned in component cities, business and tourist areas, capital towns, class-A cities and municipalities.

He said that another tranche of Glock 17 Generation 4 has arrived but the firearms will still have to undergo a series of tests to be performed in 32 to 45 days before the actual distribution to policemen.

Earlier, Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II said he is looking forward to having a capable, efficient and effective police force.
