10 dead as bus plunges in Benguet
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines – Ten people were killed after their vehicle fell off a road into a ravine in Buguias town this province yesterday.
Initial reports said 10 others survived and were rescued and rushed to various hospitals in the region for treatment.
The victims were on a Ford Fiera van with license plate AAD 874 heading for Abatan town when the still unidentified driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve off the road and fall some 80 meters down a ravine.
Reports said the victims had come from a thanksgiving party of the town’s re-elected mayor, Melchor Diclas, when the accident occurred at around 2:30 p.m.
Some of the passengers who were rescued later died at the Abatan emergency hospital and Lutheran hospital.
Ten more were rushed to the Benguet General Hospital and Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for serious injuries.
Authorities were still investigating the accident.
