PNP all set for school opening on June 3

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has put in place security measures to ensure the safety of millions of students returning to schools when classes open on June 3.

According to the PNP, security coverage has been expanded to different schools and universities in Metro Manila and other urban cities where huge number of students are expected to converge in the first and second week of June.

Security in airports, seaports, transport terminals, business establishments and other public places will be intensified as people are expected to return from their vacation, the PNP said.

PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima has ordered all Police Regional Offices to conduct mobile and foot patrols along major routes and highways leading to schools to ensure public safety.

“We would like to warn the public, especially the students, to be more vigilant while going to school on public utility jeepneys, bus, and trains where criminals could take advantage,” Purisima said.

“Commuters should be mindful and secure their belongings at all times. Parents should also keep their eyes on their children while going to and leaving school premises,” he added.

Aside from security patrols, the PNP will establish Police Assistance Desks near schools in coordination with school authorities, their security forces, and barangay force multipliers.

The PNP will also designate personnel to address bullying inside and outside school premises; coordinate with concerned local government units regarding the strict implementation of the zoning ordinance prohibiting the existence of computer shops and billiard establishments in the vicinity of schools.

Purisima urged the public to report any suspicious person or activity to the nearest police station or through PNP hotlines I-Text Mo Kay TSIP 0917-84757557 and PNP TXT 2920.
