Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed yesterday the rescue of two Filipino human trafficking victims in the United States.

“Based on a report by our embassy in Washington DC, the two Filipino nationals who were rescued in connection with an alleged human trafficking incident are now under the care of concerned US authorities,” DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said in a text message to reporters.

Hernandez said officials of the Philippine embassy in Washington are set to visit and extend necessary assistance to the two female victims of human trafficking.

“An ongoing investigation on the case is being conducted by US authorities. We will be monitoring developments on this case,” he added. Hernandez did not give further details on the two.

The State Department earlier said that federal law enforcement officials rescued two Filipino women from the home of a Saudi Arabian diplomat in Northern Virginia.
