Filing of SALNs up to Tuesday

MANILA, Philippines - Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales reminded all government officials and employees yesterday to file their statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) on or before the April 30 deadline.

Citing Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, she said the law requires all government officials and employees to submit declarations under oath of their assets, liabilities, net worth and financial and business interests, including those of their spouses and of unmarried children under 18 years old.

Government officials and employees are required to file their SALNs within 30 days after assumption of office; on or before April 30 of every year thereafter; and within 30 days after separation from the service.

Morales also reminded government employees to be truthful in accomplishing the form as it is an important tool in determining illegally acquired wealth of public servants.

Recently, the Civil Service Commission released the new SALN format which shall be used starting this year by all government officials and personnel.

Morales warned that failure to file a SALN is punishable with suspension of one to six months for the first offense, and dismissal from service for the second offense.
