(UPDATE) Gov't hails arrest of suspect in Boston bombings
MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The government welcomed the news that the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings early this week have been neutralized, a senior official said Saturday.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said it was good that brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, prime suspects in the marathon twin bombings, were neutralized. It was reported that Tamerlan was killed in a police chase, while Dzhokhar was arrested following the information given by the citizenry.
"It's good that they are already in custody, they are already under process of the law, and we hope that this will serve to lessen the grief that is being experienced by the families of those who have gone too soon and to the families of those who are injured and are struggling to get back on their feet, literally and figuratively, to start their lives again," Valte said.
She said that the arrest of Dzhokhar only proved that the cooperation of the people is important when it comes to certain government operations.
Three people were killed and over 180 others were injured during the Boston marathon bombings, including a Chinese student of Boston University.
