Myanmar labor minister to visit Philippines
MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A top level labor delegation from Myanmar led by its Labor Minister U. Maung Myint will arrive in the Philippines next week for a study visit, a senior Philippine government official said today.
Philippine Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the study visit of Myanmar's labor officials is scheduled on April 22 to 26 and is part of the International Labor Organization's (ILO) ASEAN Triangle Project.
"I look forward to the visit to the Philippines of Minister U. Maung Myint and party. His visit will be an opportune time to discuss ways of strengthening the labor migration management systems and services of the Philippines and Myanmar," said Baldoz.
The Myanmar delegation will visit Philippine agencies that deal with labor migration, discuss policies and management systems, and see first-hand programs and services that cater to migrant workers.
Baldoz said one of the objectives of the study tour is for Myanmar to identify specific areas in labor migration management they wish to learn about, and which could be addressed by the Philippine government with the support of the ASEAN Triangle Project.
The ASEAN Triangle Project aims to reduce the exploitation of migrant workers in the Southeast Asian region through increased legal and safe migration and improved labor protection.
