Political donors urged to give to church’s bible project

MANILA, Philippines - This election season, political donors are urged to make contributions not only to the campaign kitty of national and local candidates and their political parties but also to the church’s project to produce five million bibles.

Philippine bible Society (PBS) chairman and president Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo hopes that politicians would share their campaign funds with their May They Be One (MTBO) bible project.

In 2008, the PBS launched the MTBO project which aims to put a bible in every home.

The PBS wants to raise five million bibles in seven years, with poor households as their primary beneficiaries.

Pabillo, however, cautioned the donors “not to use the bible for their own campaign.”

“There might be those who would decide to put their names as donors on the covers of the bibles before distributing them to the public. If ever they would distribute bibles, they should do that because they want to help spread the Word of God,” he said.

Proceeds from the first Bible Run last year helped them print 5,000 more copies of the bible.

Yesterday, the second MTBO Bible Run was held at the Quirino Grandstand.
