Phl welcomes UN sanctions on N. Korea

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines welcomed and supported yesterday the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2094 (2013) imposing sanctions on North Korea in response to the nuclear test it conducted last Feb. 12.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) instructed the Philippine embassy in Seoul to intensify efforts with Filipino community organizations to prepare contingency plans in view of the current situation.

The Philippines reiterated its call for North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.

Manila also urged North Korea to “act as a responsible member of the international community.”

“The Philippines also expresses its deep concern on the recent announcement by (North Korea) that it is voiding all non-aggression agreements with the Republic of Korea. The announcement raises tensions in the Korean Peninsula which threaten regional peace and stability,” the DFA said in a statement.
