MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday that it will subpoena two party-list groups for failing to remove their campaign posters placed outside common poster areas.
The Comelec said taht party-list groups Ang Kabataan and Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) may face charges for violation of Comelec Resolution No. 9615 or the implementing rules and regulations of the Fair Elections Act.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 9615, campaign posters should be posted "outside authorized common poster areas, in public places, or in private properties without the consent of the owner."
The poll body said that the campaign poster of the two party-list groups have yet to be removed from the wall of the Philippine General Hospital and other areas along Taft Avenue.
Esmeralda Ladra of the Comelec's law department said that the two party-list groups will be asked to reply to the subpoena.
She said that based on the reply of the two party-list groups, the Comelec en banc will decide on whether they should be disqualified from the party-list election this coming May.
