MANILA, Philippines - Japanese fireworks wowed audiences at Saturday night’s opening of the 4th Philippine International Pyromusical competition at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

The 20-minute Japanese fireworks display by the Tamaya Kitahara Fireworks Co., Ltd. burst stunning images into the sky as Japanese classical music played in the background.

Dubbed “TradEdge” or “When Tradition meets the Edge,” the fireworks was a combination of Japanese tradition and new technology.

“We did not only combine the 1,000 year Japanese tradition and the world’s newest trend, we expressed the beautiful phenomena born for this fusion,” said the Japanese team in a statement released to reporters.

Aside from Japan, a team from Finland also dazzled spectators gathered at MOA’s Manila Bay side.

Oy Pyroman said their performance used a mixture of gothic metal music from last year’s exhibition combined with new movie-style classical voices.

Eleven world-renowned pyrotechnic artists are set to compete in the fireworks exhibition every Saturday until March 23.

Taiwan and Spain will perform on Feb. 23; the United Kingdom and South Korea on March 2; Italy and the Netherlands, March 9; China and Australia, March 16, and Canada on March 23.

The Philippines, as the host country, will also showcase on March 23 a pyromusical performance to be executed by Platinum Fireworks Inc.

Last year, Canada topped the competition, followed by Australia and Finland.
