Enrile welcomes Senate probe into memoir

MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile welcomed yesterday a Senate investigation into the veracity of his memoir.

“My memoir is a documented material,” he said. “I have a full library. They can read my book if they want.”

Enrile said he is thankful to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago for calling for an investigation.

“Only those who are not intelligent will do that,” he said. “If its contents are not true, I think no one will buy my book.”

Enrile said people without stature in life are looking for ways to be recognized.

“I stand by my book, that is why I wrote it,” he said.  “Was Plaza Miranda untrue? Was the FQS (First Quarter Storm) untrue? Was the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) rebellion untrue?”

Enrile challenged Santiago and retired Philippine National Police chief Ramon Montaño to show the wrong portions in his book.

“They can pinpoint all the wrong that they are saying in my book,” he said. “I have documents.”
