PHLPost issues Valentine stamps

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has issued Valentine-themed stamps to lure Filipinos to go back to the old ways of writing love letters even in the cyber age.

The “Mahal Kita 2013 Valentine’s Day” stamp shows a couple wearing the traditional Filipino costumes while holding hands. The man is shown professing his love for the woman with a bouquet of flowers and a love letter.

“Filipinos are hopeless romantics and no holiday brings out the romantic in us than Valentine’s Day,” PHLpost postmaster general Josefina de la Cruz said.

“A well-composed love letter is an indispensable part of Valentine’s Day celebration,” she added.

The PHLPost official believes that love letter writing would never go out of style.

“As long as there are people falling in love, love letters will always be written and cherished by the recipients,” De la Cruz said.

The Valentine’s Day stamp, which will be circulated until Jan. 13 next year, was designed by Victorino Serevo and Rey Anthony Alejandro, both from the Technical University of the Philippines.

PHLPost printed 55,000 copies of the stamp to be sold at P10 each.
