Printing of ballots for May polls begins

MANILA, Philippines - The National Printing Office (NPO) on Monday night started the printing of ballots for the May midterm election.

James Jimenez, spokesperson of the Commission on Elections, said that the printing started at around 10 p.m. right after the NPO received the images and design of the ballots.

NPO Director Emmanuel Andaya said they will finish the printing of ballot in 65 days.

Andaya said that the NPO's state-of-the-art printing machines, can print one million ballots a day. He said that during the first week of printing, they will be able to produce 650,000 ballots per day and one million ballots per day in the second week.

The official said that the printing machines are being manned by the NPO's personnel, who have been assigned in three shifts.
