Warmer weather expected this week

MANILA, Philippines - Slightly warmer weather is expected in most parts of the country this week due to the easterly wind, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

PAGASA weather division chief Robert Sawi said the northeast monsoon is still the dominant wind system in the country but it has weakened.

Sawi also said no low-pressure area is expected to develop within the Philippine area of responsibility in the next three days.

“The easterlies, wind coming from the Pacific Ocean, is expected to bring warmer weather in the next few days,” he said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA reiterated its warning to fishermen not to venture out into the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao due to strong winds and big waves.

It said rough to very rough seas will prevail over Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Northern and eastern coast of Cagayan, northern coast of Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Provinces, Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, eastern coast of Sorsogon and eastern coast of Quezon, including Polillo Island.

The provinces of Samar, Leyte, Surigao, Davao Oriental, Dinagat Island and Siargao will also experience rough to very rough seas with wave heights as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters.
