ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Six men kidnapped last night a 52-year-old businessman at his eatery in a coastal village of this city.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo identified the victim as Eddie Favella who owns Chuchay eatery just beside the shore and less than a kilometer away from the Western Mindanao Command headquarters in Barangay Maasin.

Favella’s elder brother, Felipe, said two of the kidnappers rode motorcycles and went into the eatery, pretending to be customers, while another came up from the pump boat.

Felipe said the men beat up his brother, who tried to fight back. Four men then dragged him to the pump boat and fled, he said.

The Zamboanga police alerted their counterparts in the Philippine Navy to rescue Favella.
