4 killed, 7 hurt in South Cotabato road mishap

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines  – Four persons, including a 3-year-old girl, were killed last Wednesday while seven others were injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a tricycle along the national highway in Tantangan, South Cotabato, police reported yesterday.

Reports said the SUV driven by Lorenzo Llarenas rammed the tricycle that was loaded with seven passengers in barangay San Felipe in Tantangan at around noon.

The fatalities were identified as Johnny Anad, driver of the tricycle, and three passengers Abing Anad, RR Anad and 3-year-old Joyce Anad.

Four other injured passengers, who were not immediately identified, were brought to a hospital in nearby Koronadal City.

Llarenas also suffered injuries when his vehicle fell into a canal after hitting the tricycle.

Two passengers of Llarenas’ car were also injured.

The group of Llarenas was on the way to Gen. Santos City to visit his daughter when the accident occurred.

Llarenas said he is willing to shoulder all the expenses of the victims.

Inspector Dario Calatrava, chief of the Tantangan police station, advised motorists to be careful while traveling along the highway in Tantangan.
