The amount was raised in an on-going telethon being conducted by TV-5, an MVP company, to help relief operations in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental.
Of the amount, First Pacific/Antonio Salim/MVP chipped in P35 million; Philex Mining, P10 million; Philippine Long Distance and Telephone (PLDT) Co., P5 million;
Smart Foundation, P5 million: First Pacific Leadership Academy, P2 million; North Luzon Expressway, P1 million; Meralco Foundation, P1 million; Maynilad, P1 million; Metro Pacific Hospitals Group, P1 million.
Mike Toledo, spokesman of the MVP Group of Companies, said the fund is an “initial donation for the victims of Pablo.”
“(We’re) soliciting from Hong Kong and Jakarta for more donations,” Toledo said in a text message to The STAR.
Dubbed Tulong Kapatid MVP, the telethon raised the amount in just an hour of airing over TV-5.
Saying “we cannot let our people down, especially at Christmas,” Pangilinan personally led the kick-off program of the telethon last Monday night.
Two Hong Kong-based colleagues of Pangilinan also pledged $25,000 to the fund drive. The CLSA Hong Kong and CLSA Exchange Capital offered more assistance to typhoon victims.
