DOJ buys 19 iPADs worth nearly P.6-M

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice purchased 19 units of iPAD3 tablets worth nearly P600,000.

The purchase of the tablets was published at the government's website. Based on the announcement, the tablets costs P31,121.70 each.

The tablets have 16GB storage, WiFi and 4G capable.

The tablets are also purchased with leatherette casings, screen protectors and anti-glare screen.

The DOJ's financial service received a copy of the purchase order on Nov. 8, 2012 and the 19 units will be delivered 30 days after payment following government procedure.

DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima said that the iPAD3 tablets are purchased for "portable functionality of the management team to increase efficiency."

"This is now a basic tool. Laptops we use for heavy documents," Lima said in a text message.
