Mr. World 1st runner-up arrives in Manila

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Andrew Wolff, first runner-up at the recently concluded Mr. World 2012, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) yesterday on board Cathay Pacific flight CX 907 from Kent, England via Hong Kong.

He was met by Cory Quirino and Ms. World 2011 first runner-up Gwendoline Ruais.

“It feels great. Sorry to the fans out there. I wanted to win for the Philippines. But first runner-up is good, and I’m happy,” Wolff was earlier quoted as saying.

“I’m proud to be Pinoy. I’m proud to represent the Philippines. It’s a privilege and an honor. Thank you to Miss Cory Quirino and Miss World Philippines for choosing me for this competition. I tried to do the role justice and did my best here. We’ve come up first runner-up. Not bad,” he said.

Wolff, a member of the national rugby team Philippine Volcanoes, ranked high in the different stages of the competition, particularly the physical challenges.

“Nakakagulat. Akala ko, mga 10th or 20th yung presentation ko. But the fact that I won is indescribable. Incredible feeling,” he said, admitting he was surprised because he had thought his presentation merited only 10th or 20th place.

The 27-year-old Wolff joined representatives from Canada, Peru, Colombia, Belgium, England, Lebanon, Croatia, Ireland and Vietnam in the top 10.

Colombia’s Francisco Parra bagged the Mr. World 2012 title with Ireland’s Leo Delaney in third place.
