Israel urges Phl to lift deployment ban

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Israel asked the Philippine government yesterday to lift the ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to their country, saying the situation has calmed down since the implementation of a ceasefire with Hamas.

Israeli Ambassador Menashe Bar-On expressed his country’s concerns on the deployment ban to Israel when he met with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Jesus Yabes.

“I hope that within days, the ban will be lifted for the benefit of the Israeli employers and the Filipino workers,” Bar-On said in a statement.

The ambassador also relayed the sentiment of Israeli employers on the hard work and professional attitude of Filipino workers.“The  OFWs in Israel have a good standing as they are known for their services and dedication,” he said.

“We have also assured the Philippine government that the OFWs are given the same security and protection as any other citizen or foreigner in Israel,” Bar-On added.
