Americans to honor hero dog
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Kabang, the hero dog who saved two kids from being hit by a motorcycle, will be honored by the American Red Cross in Davis County in December.
Dr. Anton Lim, a local veterinarian and an executive of Tzu Chi Foundation that has been assisting Kabang in her medication in California, said Kabang is doing well.
The hero dog, an Aspin (asong Pinoy), lost her upper snout during the accident.
A tumor has also been diagnosed in her body, causing the bleeding of her genitals.
“Kabang is okay now. The tumor is almost gone and after the (chemotherapy) process, we’ll go to the heartworm treatment then the snout reconstruction procedure,” Lim said.
Lim said the Americans back in California have gained interest in the native dog.
“They have been asking how much an Aspin breed would cost. I can only joke and say we have a lot,” Lim said.
“And because of Kabang, the perception that the Philippines is a dog-eating nation has changed. They say ‘you are now known as a dog-caring nation,’” Lim added.
