Davao City school gets bomb threat

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Classes at a high school in Davao City were suspended on Friday due to a bomb threat, which is similar to two bomb scares in Manila early this week.

Radio reports said a student at the F. Bangoy National High School in Sasa district found a letter on a schoolroom's floor, which warns of six bombs allegedly planted around the school.

The student immediately informed the school's principal, who ordered all students to evacuate to a nearby elementary school.

The Davao City police immediately sent a bomb disposal team and as of 9:30 a.m., no bomb has been found.

The report said that "Laban Pilipinas" was written at the end of the letter.

On Wednesday, classes at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Manila were also suspended due to a bomb threat.

A student found a letter inside one of the comfort rooms of the university, which warned of a bomb that will supposedly explode inside the campus.

The letter was marked "Bangon Pilipinas."

The Manila police's bomb disposal team failed to find any bombs.

A box containing electrical wires, two batteries and sand was abandoned at the back of Tas Transit bus in Lawton, Manila.

The box also contained a note, which says: ""May iniwan akong bomba sa likurang bahagi ng bus. Huwag niyong gagalawin at ito ay sasabog. Baguhin ang Pilipinas! Boom!"

Bangsamoro deal, Mindanao bombings

Two people were killed and two policemen were wounded in a bomb explosion in Cagayan de Oro City, before dawn Thursday. Hours earlier, another bomb went off in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, leaving one civilian injured.

Superintendent Gil Hitosis, Northern Mindanao regionl police director, said Thursday that they are checking if the separate bomb attacks are related to the Bangsamoro deal recently forged by the peace panels of the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“We are checking the possible link of the explosions in Zamboanga and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), as we all know the Philippine government has an ongoing peace deal with a group while the other group feels disgruntled," Hitosis said.

However, he said that there was still no strong evidence linking the explosions to the peace peal.

Hitosis said the police received reports that renegade MILF commander Ameril Umbra Kato and his group are planning to harass three to four towns in Lanao de Norte by conducting bombing activities in Iligan City.

“We are checking if the recent bombing was a translation of their threats,” he said.

There were also reports of possible hostilities from some factions within the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which has an existing peace deal with the government, because of the Bangsamoro deal.

Police units in the Northern Mindanao provinces have been placed on full alert.
