MANILA, Philippines - Several local government units in Metro Manila suspended afternoon classes on Wednesday due to heavy rains brought on by tropidal storm "Marce," which entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday night.
The local goverment units of Parañaque, Muntinlupa and Manila cities suspended classes in all levels while the local government units of Makati, Muntinlupa, Marikina, Pasay and Quezon cities and Pateros suspended classes from pre-school to high school levels.
The St. Scholastica's College in Manila and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Sta. Mesa have also suspended classes in all levels as well as the local government of Sasmuan town in Pampanga and Cavite provice.
Meanwhile, state weather bureau issued a yellow rainfall advisory over Metro Manila, warning of possible flooding in low-lying areas in the metropolis.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued the yellow rainfall advisory at 8:30 a.m.
It said that moderate to heavy rains will prevail over the capital region for the next three hours or until before noon.
"Possible flooding in low-lying areas," PAGASA said.
As of this posting, several areas in Metro Manila were already flooded due to heavy rains.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned that of possible flooding in low-lying areas in Metro Manila including España Boulevard in Manila, Talayan Creek in Quezon City, and JP Rizal Avenue in Marikina City.
The MMDA said that as of 9 a.m., Taft-Zamore and Ortiga-Megamall areas were already experiencing gutter-deep floods.
