RCBC leads in 'going green'

MANILA, Philippines -  For actively leading efforts to promote environmental sustainability within the banking industry and to the general public, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) recently bagged the Green Leadership Award by Enterprise Asia during its annual Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

RCBC, through its environment awareness campaign called “It’s Our Nature to Care,” was recognized by Asia’s leading non-governmental organization for green entrepreneurship for spearheading various initiatives and implementing programs designed to reduce and reverse the impact of its business on the environment.

RCBC is the only Philippine company to win in the category.

The bank shared the distinction with five other winning entrants from Southeast Asia and joined two other local companies that were likewise cited in separate categories in this year’s edition of the awards.

The regional showcase recognizes and honors Asian businesses that champion sustainable and responsible entrepreneurship.

Launched in 2009, “It’s Our Nature to Care” campaign encapsulates RCBC’s dual pledge to advance the interests of its clients and the well-being of the environment in which it operates. Among the notable projects completed by RCBC under this program include major tree-planting activities in Marikina City and Cabuyao, Laguna, which were done in partnership with Carousel Productions, the producer of the Miss Philippines-Earth beauty contest.

Last year, the bank partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the adoption and repopulation of a 100-hectare denuded forest land in Tanay, Rizal. It also distributed hundreds of garbage cans to the Intramuros Tourism Council in Manila and sponsored the staging of the annual Earth Hour by the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines.
