Low-pressure area seen to enter Phl

MANILA, Philippines - An active low-pressure area is expected to enter the country by tomorrow morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA forecaster Fernando Cada yesterday said that there is a “more than 50 percent possibility that the active low-pressure area would become a tropical depression.”

It is reportedly moving in a west northwest direction with wind velocity of between 20 to 30 kilometers per hour (kph). If its wind velocity reaches 45 kph, it would be classified as a tropical depression.

Once it intensifies into a tropical depression it would be called “Enteng.”

Cada said the weather disturbance might make landfall in Bicol province because of the presence of a ridge of high-pressure area.

But if this area would recede, then it might only graze the Bicol Region.

In its 5 p.m. forecast, the state weather bureau said the active low-pressure area was estimated to be 1,180 kilometers east of Mindanao.

The southwest monsoon also continues to affect Western Luzon.

PAGASA said that Western Luzon would experience occasional rains while the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao would have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to southeast would prevail over Luzon and Western Visayas.

The coastal waters along these areas would be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, the winds would be light to moderate coming from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas.
