Dolphy now lucid, shows more signs of recovery

- Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippine - A day after smiling, doctors at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) said Wednesday that comedy king Dolphy is now lucid and has shown recovery of his reflexes.

Dr. Eric Nubla, head of the patient relations office of the MMC said the 83-year-old comedian is also rid of his pneumonia, although he still has an infection that is now being addressed by the doctors.

“Parang gising. Yeah, gising is a simple word to describe lucid. Nag-rerespond naman siya. Wala na yung pneumonia, but he continues to have infection in some parts we do not know exactly where. Gising siya and he is responding to treatment. With the support of the dialysis and the transfusions, that goes to show that things are under control,” said Nubla.

“He is getting better. Yesterday, I surmised from the medical bulletin that he is on his way to getting better. He has his reflexes back,” said Nubla.

Nubla said that although Dolphy is now responding, he is still considered as “critical but stable.” Nubla said Dolphy continues to receive blood transfusions and is also still undergoing dialysis.

“Nagre-respond naman siya but still he is critical but stable. We are now addressing problems as they arise. His dialysis which continues to clean the system of impurities and waste material, yung blood transfusion which aids in the circulation of the blood and getting oxygen to the vital organs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nubla said visitors wishing to see Dolphy at the hospital’s intensive care unit will still be tightly screened by his family as to not expose him to further infections.

“You don’t want to lose the gains that you have. Infection is an overwhelming problem. 'Pag nagkaroon ng infection, mahirap i-contain yun. Unang una, marami na siyang problema. 'Pag nadagdagan ng infection, then, baka mabawasan ang mga gains at mahirapan uli siya,” he said.

Nubla said yesterday that Dolphy has become more sensitive to pain, has become more awake and ticklish and has even managed to smile.

Dolphy was rushed to the MMC last June 9 for pneumonia. He was diagnosed to be suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
