PNP opens bidding for P1.1 B worth of 9mm pistols

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) will open tomorrow public bidding for the procurement of P1.198 billion worth of 9mm pistols to fully meet the requirement for short firearms of police personnel nationwide.

Deputy Director General Emelito Sarmiento, PNP deputy chief for operations, said it would be one of the largest procurements of the PNP since the capability enhancement program (CEP) was established. Sarmiento is also chairman of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC).

PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said the public bidding will be held at 2 p.m. at the PNP national headquarters main conference room in Camp Crame.

“To develop PNP capability to prevent crimes and other illegal activities, a total of 59,904 units of 9mm pistols with an estimated price of P1.198 billion will be procured from the funds of CEP 2011 and CEP 2012 to fill up 100 percent of the PNP handgun requirement,” Bartolome explained.
