New low-pressure area expected to enter Phl

- Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A new low-pressure area was spotted yesterday off southern Luzon and was expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility last night.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said as of 2 p.m. yesterday the low-pressure area was about 1,150 kilometers east of southern Luzon.

PAGASA weather forecaster Fernando Cada, however, said there is only a “small chance or a 20 to 30 percent possibility that the low-pressure area would develop into a tropical depression because its cloudiness is disorganized.”

“There is also a ridge of high-pressure area situated above the low-pressure area,” Cada said.

The weather bureau said Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Eastern and Northern Mindanao would have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from southwest to south would prevail over Northern and Central Luzon, while coastal waters along these areas would be moderate to rough.
