Mayor bares record for 'Lolong'

MANILA, Philippines - The Guinness Book of World Records has officially certified “Lolong,” the saltwater crocodile captured in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur on Sept. 20, 2011, as the “World’s biggest crocodile in captivity.”

Lolong was measured at 20 feet and four inches long by experts who visited the town after the much-publicized capture.

Bunawan Mayor Edwin Elorde said they have already accepted the official certification coming from the Guinness organization.

The certification was read in public in line with the celebration of Araw ng Bunawan.

Elorde said Lolong, which has become the town’s number one tourist attraction, is a big help to Bunawan’s economy.
