Bartolome warns cops: No Facebook at work

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

Manila, Philippines -  Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome warned again yesterday policemen against logging in to Facebook during office hours.

Speaking over radio dzRH, Bartolome said: “They are prohibited from logging in to Facebook during office hours or from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are covered by the civil service rules and we are supposed to render work during office hours.”

Facebook is a social network site that connects people from different parts of the world. To date, 300 million people worldwide have Facebook accounts.

Reports showed the Philippines is the fifth largest Facebook user, with about 1.7 million members.

Some police units turned to social networking, particularly Facebook, in identifying perpetrators and solving crimes.

A number of crime suspects were arrested after police traced them using Facebook accounts.

The Laguna Police Provincial Office has its own Facebook account, which is focused on the list of wanted persons. The account led to the arrest of a number of wanted persons.
