- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Taiwan Associations (Philippines) Inc. has donated 300 metric tons of rice to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the victims of typhoon “Sendong” which hit the country last year.

Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman received the donation from Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) representative Raymond Wang and officials of Taiwan Associations Inc. yesterday.

Taiwan Associations Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Pasig City. It is a subsidiary of the World Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce.

Soliman said the rice donation would be distributed to the families affected by Sendong in Mindanao and flood victims in Bulacan.

The DSWD provided technical and documentation support as well as facilitation at the Bureau of Customs, Soliman said.

Sendong, which battered Northern Mindanao and Central Visayas in December last year, left thousands of people dead and over P1 billion damage to property.
