Abalos under close watch by doctors

MANILA, Philippines - Doctors of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the family doctor of detained former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Benjamin Abalos are conducting tests to determine the actual state of his health, a designated family doctor told The STAR yesterday.

Dr. Zaldy Carpeso, the newly designated physician of Abalos, said he is coordinating with the PNP doctors in assessing the health condition of the patient.

“We will be conducting series of blood test to determine the saturation of oxygen,” Carpeso said.

Abalos has a history of lung illness and recurring ulcer.

Carpeso said he cannot issue a medical bulletin until all the tests are completed.

As of yesterday, Abalos has already recovered from low oxygen but continued to suffer dizziness.

“We want to find out what is causing the low oxygen saturation in the blood of the patient,” he said.

Earlier, Dr. Arnold Abalos said the mental and health state of his father is rapidly deteriorating.

He said that lack of air, exercise, sleep and depression has contributed to the current state of his father.

Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos said his father had a hard time sleeping and has been showing sign of depression the past weeks.
