P-Noy confers Order of Sikatuna on Chinese envoy

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino conferred yesterday the Order of Sikatuna on outgoing Chinese Ambassador Liu Jianchiao in recognition of his role in further strengthening relations between the two countries.

In his farewell call at the Music Room of the Palace, Liu received the Order of Sikatuna with the Rank of Datu, Grand Cross (Gold Distinction) from Aquino for his outstanding initiatives including arranging high level meetings between the Philippines and China, and facilitating visits of high-ranking officials from both sides including the state visit of the President to China.

The Chinese envoy was recognized for his part in convening the bilateral consultative mechanisms including foreign ministry consultations and facilitation activities between the two countries in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Philippine-China diplomatic relations. The outgoing ambassador was also cited for his constructive role in easing tensions in the aftermath of the Rizal Park hostage crisis. The President also noted Liu’s efforts in enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries, making China one of the top trading partners of the Philippines and one of the largest sources of development assistance. – Aurea Calica
