- Roel Pareño -

ZAMBOANGA CITY ,Philippines  – Unidentified men kidnapped last night an Australian man in a subdivision in Ipil town, Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.

Chief Superintendent Elpedio de Asis, director of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO) in Zamboanga, identified the victim as Warren Roduel, 53, reportedly residing at Green Meadows Subdivision in Barangay Pangi.

De Asis said initial investigation showed that six unidentified men barged into Roduel’s house at around 6 p.m. and seized him at gunpoint.

Roduel’s Filipino relatives alerted local police officers, who conducted pursuit operations.

Lt. Col. Randolf Cabangbang, spokesman of Western Mindanao Command, confirmed the report and said they monitored Roduel’s kidnappers moving towards a coastal area.

“The military and police units in the area were all alerted to intercept possible presence of the suspects and conduct safe rescue operation,” Cabangbang said.
